Listed in the Canadian Who’s Who, Robin is a community activist for social needs, charitable giving and environmental protection. For several years in the 1970’s, he served as Chair of the Goal-Setting Committee of the United Way of Metropolitan Toronto.

“ Service to others is the true essence of leadership”, says Dr. Robin Richardson.

Robin was Member of Parliament for Toronto-Beaches (Progressive Conservative, 1979-80). As MP, Robin was advisor to two Cabinet Ministers and a member of Finance Committee. He was also a member of the Select Committee on Volunteer Action, with special national responsibility for religious organizations.

Meet Dr. Robin M. Richardson, CSA, PhD, Greater Victoria, British Columbia

Robin and his wife, Jacqui, were high school sweethearts and are now married 43 years. They have 2 children, Randy and Pam, and two grandchildren, Cassandra and Braedyn, who are the loves of their life.

Robin and Jacqui’s dog, Daisy, is also a member of the Richardson family. She is a “Boodle”, a combination Bichon Frise and French Poodle. Daisy is Robin’s walking companion on the many walks and trails in beautiful Greater Victoria.

Robin and Jacqui feel very blessed to live in Victoria, BC, with its wonderful sub-Mediterranean climate, hospitable people, vibrant arts community, universities and colleges, restaurants and interesting places to visit. From internationally-acclaimed Butchart Gardens to Victoria’s Inner Harbour, it is always fun to “play tourist” in their town and enjoy the sights, sounds and activities of this “Pearl of the Pacific.”

The Richardson’s are active in their church, Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, where Robin is Associate Pastor and Director of Cornerstone’s video International School of Ministry (ISOM). He oversees all adult Christian education and is active in the prayer ministry of his church. Prior to joining Cornerstone in 1992, Robin was Pastor of the Esquimalt Church of the Nazarene and Chair of the Esquimalt Ministerial Association.

Active members of the Juan de Fuca 55+ Seniors Centre, Robin and Jacqui enjoy ballroom and line dancing and are members of the Juandering Wheels Seniors RV Club. They also are members of the Vancouver Island RV Travelaire Club. Recent owners of a 33-foot motor home (“the cottage”), the Richardsons are systematically exploring Vancouver Island. They also enjoy cruise ship vacations, having sailed to Mexico, Hawaii, the Caribbean and Europe.

Robin is an avid fisherman and is learning to fly fish. A movie buff, Robin also enjoys hiking, biking, gardening, photography, card games, writing and reading.

A Distinguished Career as an Economist

Robin Richardson is a Harvard University-educated economist who has served many years as Senior Economist of the Toronto Dominion Bank, Chief Economist of Loewen Ondaatje McCutcheon and Company (an institutional stock brokerage company), National Research Director and Chief Economist of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation and Director of the Fraser Institute’s International Centre for the Study of Public Debt.

A former civil servant, Dr. Richardson was Regional Economist with the Ontario Government’s Department of Trade and Development. Professionally, Robin was President of the Toronto Association of Business Economists, Director of the Toronto Society of Financial Analysts and Vice Chair of the Index Committee of the Toronto Stock Exchange.

In BC, Robin served for many years as Vice President of the Association of Professional Economists of British Columbia. He is currently a member of the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians.

In Victoria, Robin was Portfolio Manager for National Trust for its clients in Victoria and Vancouver Island. He has also been an Economic Consultant to the British Columbia Ferry Corporation and to clients of the Business Development Bank of Canada.

Robin was a successful financial planner in Chilliwack from 1984 to 1990, moving to Victoria in 1990. He brought to Main Street’s individual investors what he had learned on Bay Street serving institutional investors in the 1970’s.

Robin is a published author with many studies and articles to his credit. He is co-editor of a major book, Canadian Confederation at the Crossroads: The Search for a Federal-Provincial Balance. The Fraser Institute, 1978.

Joke

A woman goes into the local newspaper office to see that the obituary for her recently deceased husband is published. After the editor informs her that the fee for the obituary is 50 cents a word, she pauses, reflects and then says, “ Well, then, let it read, “Fred Brown died.”

Confounded by the woman’s thrift, the editor stammers that there is a 7-word minimum for all obituaries. The woman pauses again, counts on her fingers, reflects and then says, “ In that case, let it be
